Evaluation

Working on ‘Laugh Out Loud’ has been a real experience. I have loved working within such a focused and fun group where I have learnt a lot. I feel that I have learnt even more about editing on Final Cut Pro this term, which is helping me develop individually for later life within the industry. As I said last year, I will carry everything from this project onto the next, which I will. I will be taking every experience of learning with me onto my next project where I aim to improve even further. To keep focused a few off us will be creating our own programmes and project to work on throughout the year. As a group i feel we have definitely achieved what we set out to do, a comedy sketch show. I am really proud of the final product we have all worked so hard to do.

Throughout the project I feel we have all worked really well as a group, involving everyone’s ideas for filming and editing to see which ideas worked best, for the best possible end product. The main editing included polishing up the sound levels to insure they were all the correct level as well as working on the tidiness of the green screen shots. Other editing involved us making the Paranormal Spoof sharper and involving horror music to create tension. As the ‘Challenges’ were very long we had to increase the speed up to 300 to insure the audience wouldn’t loose interest. Thinking about our target audience, we didn’t want them to loose interest, which meant cutting some interviews. Personally I feel I have progressed this term. Compared to last year, there was less green screening to edit and most of our shots were filmed straight on, with no effects, I feel I haven’t improved on the editing side as much as I wanted to. The work within the group has been equal where we individually worked on different sections. This worked well where we viewed and supported each other’s work giving critical criticism and helpful pointers to better it.

The music used within the production were artists such as Sub Focus, Fat Boy Slim, Two Door Cinema Club and Chiddy Bang.  We wanted the vibe of the music to help portray the show from the first shot, which is fun, comedic and for the younger generation. I think the music worked well with light fun beats throughout.

Here is a screen shot of us editing half way through -

Editing suite

In the editing suite we were using the program Final Cut Pro 7. Within the group we were all familiar of how to use it and didn’t take long to get back into the swing of it. We all found editing the green screen and adding effects a lot easier this time as I had a manual, I made from last years project. This included every step of how to edit on Final Cut. I personally found editing the green screen a lot easier than last year as I knew my way around the program. I feel I have improved further with my editing. Other helpful sources were YouTube tutorials and Final Cut Pro books. Such as:

- Young, R (2010). The Focal Easy Guide To Final Cut Pro 7. Canada: Elsevier Ltd.

Also to help with our sound editing we used Soundtrack pro to help clear up the wind from the interviews, due to our broken boom mic. To help me master Soundtrack Pro the best I could, I used the Soundtrack Pro, User Manual.

Social networking is extremely popular worldwide with everyone from the President to pet animals having their own accounts we thought we would involve it into our production.  Twitter and Facebook, to name a few are the main social networking sites aimed at people aged 14-30. This age bracket is our main target audience as they are familiar with the Internet and most of all, YouTube where our project will be shown.  Within our show we directly invite the audience to have their own say on the show sharing views on the characters, presenters and offering new challenge ideas for us to undergo. We simply added a fake twitter account for the program to seem even more realistic. I think this worked really well in involving the audience more.

Feedback

Feedback from fellow classmates was really helpful.  Viewers found our production comical, which was positive feedback for us all. The comments given were really encouraging to further our progress on the project, with critical comments and suggestions to help. They really enjoyed the different scenes and challenges but found the Paranormal Spoof the funniest as it was so similar to the film, where they could clearly see the connections from the film, to our spoof. The fact they said they found it comical so early in the editing stage was really good, as this is our first comedy sketch show where normally it’s hard to create comedy as it’s normally a hit or miss. As a group, the audience finding it humorous was a relief to us, as we didn’t know how the humor would translate on screen.
